The ALEX2 Allergy test can check for close to 300 relevant allergen sources (except drug allergens, such as penicillin). We have the most comprehensive panel in the UK which also tests for molecular allergens, which allows for a comprehensive understanding of allergic cross-reactions and a risk assessment of food allergies (to allow for tailormade dietary recommendations). Likewise, allergen-specific immunotherapy can be directed against the main trigger (available for pollen, house dust mites and insect venoms) of symptoms.
An allergy is not the same as a less serious food intolerance which is difficulty digesting certain foods and having an unpleasant physical reaction to them. This can be genetic and mostly mediated by IgG (not IgE which is measured in this allergy test).
Whether pollen, mites, furry animals, insect venoms, moulds and yeasts, nuts, food or latex this test will allow you and your family to fully explore and understand all your allergies.
Please note that currently these tests run with a 3 to 5 working days turnaround.
What is an allergy?
An allergy is where your body reacts to something that’s normally harmless like pollen, dust or animal fur. The symptoms can be mild, but for some people they can be very serious.
Causes of allergies
Things that cause allergic reactions are called allergens.
Common allergens include:
- tree and grass pollen (hay fever)
- house dust mites
- foods, such as peanuts, milk and eggs (food allergy)
- animal fur, particularly from pets like cats and dogs
- insect stings, such as bee and wasp stings
- certain medicines
Check if it’s an allergy
Symptoms of an allergic reaction can include:
- a runny nose or sneezing
- pain or tenderness around your cheeks, eyes or forehead
- coughing, wheezing or breathlessness
- itchy skin or a raised rash (hives)
- diarrhoea
- feeling or being sick
- swollen eyes, lips, mouth or throat
What is an ALEX2 allergy test?
There are a few different types of allergy test, but the basic idea is to work out what’s causing your allergy and how severe it is. The tests will be designed to look for different types of allergy which affect the body in different ways, according to the symptoms you’ve been having.
The ALEX2 is a simple blood test to check whether your body has created antibodies in response to specific allergens.
