About Chlamydia testing:

If you don’t have any symptoms

Our test service is designed for people who don’t have symptoms. It’s a quick and discreet way to check on your sexual health.

If you have a new sexual partner, have more than one sexual partner, have had sex without a condom, or are worried you have been exposed to a sexually transmitted infection, we recommend you get tested.

If you have symptoms

Our testing service is for patients who have NO symptoms. If you are experiencing ANY SYMPTOMS then you should NOT use this service. You should attend your local sexual health clinic or GP.

Symptoms include: unusual discharge from the vagina or penis; pain or discomfort in the pelvis, testicles or penis; abnormal bleeding from the vagina; discomfort, discharge or bleeding from the rectum.

How to take the tests

Depending on the tests you request, you may be directed to take a swab (from your vagina or throat), give a urine sample, or give a finger-prick blood sample. The test will come with all the equipment you need, plus instructions for how to take the tests safely and accurately.

Chlamydia Treatment

To be elligiable for chlamydia treatment, you must be over 18 years of age, and you must have been tested positive for Chlamydia trachomatis using any reliable chlamydia test kit.

Doxycycline

Doxycycline is an antibiotic. It can be used to treat chlamydia by killing the bacteria that cause the infection.

Important information about chlamydia treatment

Do not take Doxycycline if there is a chance of pregnancy, or if you are breastfeeding.

Do not take Doxycycline if you have symptoms. You should attend your local sexual health clinic. Symptoms include:

  • Discharge/fluid from your penis
  • Painful or swollen testicles
  • Increase or change to vaginal discharge
  • Bleeding during or after sex, or between periods
  • Pain or burning on passing urine or passing urine more often
  • Pain, bleeding or discharge/fluid from your rectum/bottom
  • Pain in your lower abdomen/tummy
  • Painful sex
  • Genital sores or lumps
  • Fever
  • New joint pains
  • New eye symptoms (soreness, discharge, redness)

Safety: taking other medicines

It is important that you let us know which prescription, over-the-counter medicines and recreational drugs you are taking so that we can prescribe Doxycycline safely.

If you are use antacid/indigestion medications, or medications containing iron, zinc or bismuth, you must wait 4hrs between taking that medication and Doxycycline.

Do not drink alcohol while taking Doxycycline.
